Plans for the BANKAPLEINFESTIJN are underway 29 September 2011- Various local residents have responded to the call for new volunteers for the wijkfeestcomité (community festivities organizing committee). Committee chairman Bert Bos, told those at the recent A&W Community Council meeting about the plans for the Bankapleinfestijn in 2012.
The wijkfeestcomité will submit a subsidy application (via the A&W Residents Association) to the City Council. The wijkfeestcomité of eight women and one man (Bert) would welcome another male volunteer to address the gender balance somewhat. One of the original committee members, Betty Aardewerk, says the reinforcements and the core members are getting along well. |

Inspiration for a new street party? A three-day street party was held on 17 - 19 June 1981 in Bonistraat and Celebesstraat in Archipelbuurt to celebrate their 100-year anniversary.
Initiators and organisers were Felix Hentenaar and Maria Morel with help from Paul Nieuwenhuijzen. Eduard E. Heidenreich made a two-part film of the proceedings. Organize a street party and get to know your neighbours Get in your application for a subsidy soon
The Hague council will continue to support inner city neighbourhood and street events in 2011 but applications must be submitted between 1 January – 15 June 2011 and you should allow six weeks for the application to be processed. The events involve small-scale activities of an expressly open character initiated by a number of individual residents. All Hague citizens with a interesting idea for an event in their street or neighbourhood can apply for a subsidy of maximum €650 (does not include the cost of food or drinks). In the succeeding years initiatives have included street play-days, sports and games events, amateur dramatics and street parties.
