The
Museum for Communication tells you about
all aspects of communication, including the history of the postal service,
writing with a goose feather, sending your name in Morse, computers and other
most recent developments. It explains how people communicated in the early days
communicated and compares it with today. There are many
interactive exhibits too. Our local Museum of Communication on Zeestraat is one of six museums who have signed up for the new HaagseMuseumbus service for the over-65s living in care homes or senior housing in The Hague, Delft, Rijswijk, Pijnacker, Nootdorp, Leidschendam and Voorburg who cannot get to museums under their own steam. An initiative of Fonds 1818 and Stichting Gezamenlijke Projecten Haagse Musea, the other museums already part of the scheme are the Gemeentemuseum, Museon, Historisch Museum, Beelden aan Zee and Muzee Scheveningen. The museum bus collects and returns the group from/to the home or senior housing complex and the three-hour visit (a specially tailored tour including coffee/tea and biscuits) costs €100 (escorts are not charged) for a group of minimum 15 and a maximum of 20 (of which a maximum of four wheelchair users, each with an escort) and a minimum of two escorts per group.
