Major renovation to Klokhuis Community Centre

After a renovation of the interior of the Klokhuis Community Centre in 2006/2007, it is now time for major repairs to the outside of the building.

The work started on 19 April and will continue till the start of the summer break 2011. This means that there could be changes to the rental of various rooms in the Centre and some disruption to the normal programme of activities.

Residents of Borneoflat above the former Schakelpunt Care Centre

welcome in Klokhuis Community Centre

Now that the Schakelpunt Care Centre facility has been closed, the board of the Klokhuis Foundation has kindly offered Borneoflat residents the use of some specific facilities:

• Coffe and tea on Mondays to Thursdays between 09.00 and 16.00 and Fridays between 09.00 and 13.00;
• 3-course meal on Tuesdays at 17.00 (reservations by Monday morning at the latest; call in or ring 07 350 35 11);
• Pancakes on Mondays and Fridays between 12.00 and 13.00;
• Gymn for 55s and over Monday: info.

The library formerly available in Schakelpunt has relocated to the Community Centre and officially opens 26 February at 10.00; thereafter every Friday from 10.00 till 11.30.

The purchase of two paintings by the Chili artist Margarita Garces (a Star Galerie artist.) three years ago inspired Fieke Sutorius to take up painting again.

Initially she worked in acrylic, but now uses oil paint, which allows her more freedom to experiment with mixed techniques like collage and textiles. She allows her imagination free rein: the paint and her fantasies guide the brush, leading to all sorts of surprises. In this way lyrical abstracts or fanciful scenes come about in which colour and form play the most important role.

Objectives - Het Klokhuis Foundation

The Foundation aims to:

1. Maintain the Klokhuis premises as a meeting space for local residents and the activities organized for and by the locals in the Archipel and Willemspark districts.

2. Achieve a non-profit exploitation of the 't Klokhuis premises by means of subsidies, room rental, sponsoring and income from the sale of refreshments and snacks.

3. Promote social cohesion and participation in the above named districts thus enhancing the welfare of residents through social work, concentrating on the disadvantaged in the neighbourhood.

4. Combat social isolation and encourage participation in society and the social scene.

5. Carry through socio-cultural work in the broadest sense of the term.

On Tuesday morning the aroma of paint and turpentine hang in the air in the attic of the Klokhuis Community Centre. A group of talented amateurs are busy painting in oils or acrylic under the supervision of an experienced artist.

Are you interested in giving lessons in a ready-made studio with plenty of light? Then get in touch.

Diverse facilities and rooms in the 't Klokhuis Community Centre can be hired for meetings (owners associations or lobby groups for example), courses, readings, choir rehearsals, exercise clubs, chat groups, etc.

Archicapella Choir (adults)

Every Wednesday evening for the last 15 years the sound of singing has been heard coming from 't Klokhuis.
The Archicapella Choir gives informal concerts a few times a year and is always looking for new members: male tenors and basses and female sopranos and altos.

Rehearsals every Wed 20.15 – 21.45 and alternate weeks male and female singers take it in turns to rehearse for an extra 30 minutes between 19.30 – 20.00.

All under the expert direction of Marine Fribourg, who graduated as choirmaster in Paris and is currently studying voice at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague.
