New recycling containers for plastic in Archipelbuurt

Forty special containers for the recycling of discarded plastic packaging went into service on 1 November at 20 different locations in The Hague. The collected plastic will be recycled to make new packaging and, for example, automobile parts, tennis balls and floor coverings. If the scheme proves successful, it is possible that more recycling points will be designated.

Two of these rather bulky recycling containers have been installed in the Archipel at Nassauplein and Burgemeester Patijnlaan.

More information about what sort of plastic can be deposited in the containers and where they are all located can be found at www.denhaag.nl

What kind of plastic is allowed?
Most plastic thrown away in the regular garbage is packaging: plastic bags, yoghurt containers, shampoo bottles and the like. The 40 containers are intended for this kind of packaging material.

Plastic other that packaging, such as plastic garden chairs or toys, can be taken to the Plutostraat depot for recycling.

Plastic Heroes
The Hague’s introduction of the separate collection of plastic packaging as of 1 November 2009 is in line with national policy. As of 1 January 2010 all municipalities in the Netherlands are required to collect plastic separately. A national campaign will generate publicity for the new regulations. Campaign posters with "Plastic Heroes" were on display earlier in 2009 in The Hague.

Residents of The Hague will soon receive more detailed information about how they can separate their plastic rubbish.

Old clothes or curtains in the bin: what a waste!

Almost all items made of fabric, in whatever state, can be given a second life. Our planet too: by depositing your castoffs in the nearest recycling container, you can help reduce carbon emissions by cutting down on what needs to be incinerated.

What does oud textiel cover?

Clothes or pieces of fabric.

All other fabrics like curtains, towels, sheets, blankets and duvets.

Shoes can also be recycled for different purposes. Wearable shoes secured in pairs find a new home via second-hand shops or organizations sending relief supplies to developing countries. Worn-out shoes can be converted into materials for sound-proofing and insulation

Digital visitor’s parking permit in 2011

In 2011 the digital visitor’s parking permit will replace the paper visitor's pass and parking disc. All residents living in neighbourhoods with paid parking may request this digital permit.

A parking permit for visitors allows your visitors to park in the street without having to purchase a ticket from the dispenser. A number of neighbourhoods are already using the digital visitor’s pass while other neighbourhoods are still using the paper visitor's pass and cardboard parking disc. The digital visitor's pass will replace the old paper system automatically over the course of 2011.
