This time in ‘t Klokhuis, where also a number of her brochures can be found, I had a nice conversation with Karin Dijkstra who recently started the Powerwalking Club Den Haag. She told me this was created by personal trainers and fitness specialists in collaboration with doctors, physiotherapists and dietitians. They regard power walking as the perfect way to stay fit. Everyone can do it and it does not overload the joints, making injuries extremely rare. Moreover, you do not need any special equipment and the outside environment with the fresh air is refreshing and gives more energy.

Powerwalking is for people who need to feel fitter and healthier, move more outside and also make new contacts. It is walking at a brisk pace, interspersed with muscle-strengthening exercises. This gives you a better condition, you build muscle strength and you feel more energetic.

I found the following description in her brochure:

more energy, efficient fat burning, more muscle strength, tighter figure (!), good condition, moving together, less stress, healthier life, active outdoors, varied and challenging. When this does not appeal to the imagination enough, I do not know anymore. In any case, I am convinced and will sign up!

Karin is very versatile. She is a teacher in special primary education for students with learning and behavioral problems, autism and ADHD. She has also worked in social pedagogical assistance and youth assistance.

In addition, she teaches bodybalance, yoga and pilates, she is a stress and burnout coach and children’s coach. “I also give chair yoga for office people who often sit behind their desks in the wrong position,” she said. She also told me full of enthusiasm about her time at the “welcome school” where, as a volunteer, she taught Syrian refugees. Unfortunately, the school no longer exists.

The Scheveningse Bos, the Waterpartij and the Westbroekpark are the areas where I usually go walking with people, she said. The starting point is before the Health Club Statensport at Frankenslag number 9.  Now, only on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. — but from September, also on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. “When groups sign up, I am flexible and the time can be adjusted.”
