Astrid Oranje is the new director of cemetery St. Petrus Banden, Kerkhoflaan and St. Barbara, Binckhorstlaan. On March 1, 2019, Astrid Oranje was appointed as first female director in the 189-year history of the R.K. Cemeteries in The Hague. The board gave her the daily management of cemeteries St. Petrus Banden and St. Barbara.

Interwoven and involved
Oranje is no stranger to the funeral industry. Thirty-five years ago she started as an administrative assistant at Stichting R.K. Cemeteries. Her life has been interwoven with the cemeteries all that time. “This feels like a crown on my career, after I started thirty-five years ago in various positions for the foundation. Intertwined and involved, that’s me with both cemeteries St. Petrus Banden and St. Barbara. I am very proud that from now on I officially have the daily management of both splendid places. “

Reduce threshold
Oranje’s mission is to lower the threshold of the cemeteries and is open to refreshing initiatives. Everything is possible at her cemeteries; from traditional coffee with cake to prosecco with a good drink; an intimate farewell or great. She also advocates a warm welcome for all visitors to the cemeteries. This is one of the reasons why she organizes chapel concerts every month in collaboration with young talent from the Royal Conservatory at St. Petrus Banden and at St. Barbara she offers flower arranging workshops.

Cake or bitterballen
You are most welcome if you want to meet the new director. Astrid Oranje likes to make time for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. Or a bitterbal.
