Jacintha van Beveren made photographs on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi that used to be known as Celebes. She visited the island in November 2017 together with the organization People with a Mission that once originated from missionary work.

They support projects on Sulawesi, Poso, among other things, where tensions between Muslims and Christians in 1999 were so high that an outbreak of violence lasted for three years. More than 3,000 people (Christians and Muslims) left their lives. The traces of the conflict are still visible.

With her photographs, Jacintha shows hopeful projects of people who try to bring different faith communities together again. And of course she also made beautiful images of the beautiful nature, such as the Sulawesi flycatcher, which is threatened by the advance of the palm oil plantations.
