fotolouwmanOn 17 December 2016 the volunteers of Wijkbus Stap In (community bus), the ladies of the helpdesk, the drivers and the Board, were treated to a visit to the Louwman Museum.
For more than 20 years the Wijkbus has transported seniors and disabled persons in the town districts  Archipel-Willemspark, Zeeheldenbuurt  and part of Duinoord.
The Louwman Museum houses one of the largest private collections of automobiles in the world, collected by two generations of the Louwman family. The foundation was laid as early as 1934 and at present the collection consists of more than 250 antique and classical automobiles from more than 100 manufacturers. Connoisseurs call the collection one of the most beautiful in the world. Real classics are the Swan Car of 1910 and the Maserati Monoposto Grand Prix Car of 1933. The Aston Martin of 1964, the famous James Bond car, also gets plenty of attention.
The unique story of each car and the passion of the guide for the beautiful collection made the conducted tour highly interesting, even to those who, like myself, have no deep feelings for cars.
At the Museumplein we were welcomed at ‘House of Lords’ with coffee and cake and after the first part of the tour a delicious lunch awaited us there. Museumplein has an attractive twenties atmosphere; the façades of the houses around it come from original The Hague buildings.
After the second part of the guided tour this wonderful day ended with drinks at the Museumplein.
I highly recommend a visit to the Louwman Museum!
