King’s Day – 27 April
Koningsdag or King ‘s Day is a national holiday in The Netherlands on April 27th celebrating the King’s birthday.
Main events on King’s Day feature the vrijmarkt, “free market” all over the country, where everybody is permitted to sell things on the streets. Other activities include street parties, children’s games, individual musical performances and musical concerts.
During the celebrations as reference to the colour of the royal House of Oranje-Nassau people dress in orange; this is sometimes called oranje-gekte, orange craze.
Each year the Archipel Orange Association organizes fun activities for the children of the neighbourhood and a BBQ and drinks party for all.
We invite you to become a member of the Archipel Orange Association which supports the neighbourhood’s King’s Day celebration. Members receive a significant discount on their BBQ ticket!
